Dr. Alex Lushikanda Kabwe – Board Member (Ministry of Agriculture Representative)
Dr. Alex Kabwe is a specialist in hydraulic and irrigation engineering, with extensive experience in designing, implementing, and managing irrigation and water resource projects. He currently serves as Principal Irrigation Engineer at the Ministry of Agriculture, focusing on irrigation and drainage structures, river diversion, rainwater harvesting, and community-based irrigation schemes.
Dr. Kabwe holds a PhD in Irrigation and Water Resources Engineering from Tottori University, Japan. He also holds two master’s degrees: a Master of Hydraulic Engineering in Land and Water Management from UNESCO-IHE, Delft, Netherlands, and a Master of Environmental Science in Water Resources Management from the University of South Australia. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Land and Water Resources Management from Mulungushi University and a Diploma in Agricultural Engineering from Natural Resources Development College, University of Zambia, Lusaka.
He has led numerous community-based smallholder irrigation projects and contributed to Zambia’s Irrigation Master Plan, supporting sustainable agricultural production and food security. As a Board Member on the WARMA Board, Dr. Kabwe represents the Ministry of Agriculture, providing technical expertise and strategic guidance on the design, allocation, and management of water resources for agriculture. His contributions are critical in ensuring equitable water distribution, promoting climate-resilient farming systems, and advancing policies that integrate sustainable irrigation practices with Zambia’s national development objectives.
