The Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA), in collaboration with the Smart Zambia Institute, is conducting a Cybersecurity Awareness Training aimed at strengthening staff capacity to identify, prevent, and respond to evolving cyber threats.
The training, being held at Mika Chamba Valley Exotic Lodge in Chongwe District, forms part of WARMA’s ongoing efforts to enhance cybersecurity awareness and safeguard the Authority’s digital systems, information assets, and critical infrastructure.
Officially opening the training, WARMA Director General, Ms. Misozi Ngulube, emphasized that as the Authority continues to embrace digital transformation in delivering its mandate, cybersecurity has become a strategic priority.
She noted that digital technologies now support key operational functions, including water permitting and licensing, hydrological information management, flood forecasting and early warning systems, financial management, and stakeholder communication.
While these technologies have enhanced operational efficiency and service delivery, they have also exposed institutions to increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
The Director General stressed that cybersecurity is no longer the responsibility of Information Technology professionals alone, but a shared responsibility that requires every employee to remain vigilant, protect institutional information, and adhere to established cybersecurity policies and best practices.
The training, facilitated by experts from the Smart Zambia Institute, is equipping participants with practical knowledge and skills in cybersecurity fundamentals, phishing and malware awareness, password and access management, email and internet safety, data protection and privacy, as well as cyber incident identification and reporting.
Through initiatives such as this, WARMA continues to invest in building a cybersecurity-conscious workforce, strengthening institutional resilience, and ensuring the secure, efficient, and reliable delivery of services in the management, development, conservation, protection, and preservation of Zambia’s water resources.
