22nd March, 2026
The Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA) today joined the Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation and other stakeholders in commemorating World Water Day 2026 in Luanshya District under the theme โ€œWater and Gender โ€“ Increasing Water Access for Women, Men and Girls for a Sustainable Future.โ€
The event, held at Kasongo Primary School, was officiated by the Permanent Secretary, Eng. Romas Kamanga, on behalf of the Hon. Minister of Water Development and Sanitation, Hon. Eng. Collins Nzovu, MP.
In the keynote address, Government reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access to safe and clean water as a key driver of public health, economic development, and social equity. The address highlighted the disproportionate burden placed on women and girls in accessing water and emphasized the need for inclusive and sustainable water solutions.
Government further outlined ongoing and planned investments in water infrastructure across the country, including the construction of new water supply schemes, drilling and rehabilitation of boreholes, and expansion of urban water networks to improve service delivery.
WARMA continues to play a critical role in safeguarding Zambiaโ€™s water resources through regulation, monitoring, and protection of both surface and groundwater.
These efforts are essential in ensuring sustainable water availability to support national development and improve livelihoods.
The commemoration also coincided with the commissioning of the Kasongo Water Supply Scheme, a project expected to significantly improve access to safe water and enhance public health outcomes in the community.
WARMA remains committed to promoting sustainable water resources management and ensuring equitable access to water for all Zambians.
