The Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA) today hosted learners and teachers from St. Ambrose Boys Technical Secondary School on an educational research tour aimed at providing practical insights into water resources management, conservation, and sustainable utilisation.
The day began with a visit to the Kasaka Gauging Station in Kafue District, where the learners were exposed to hydrological monitoring systems and observed how water resources data is collected, analysed, and applied to support informed decision-making in the management of Zambia’s water resources.
At WARMA Headquarters, the learners were taken through the Authorityโ€™s mandate and the various processes involved in regulating, monitoring, allocating, and protecting water resources in the country.
Through interactive engagements with technical and administrative staff, the pupils were able to connect classroom concepts with real operational practice, gaining a clearer appreciation of the realities of water resources management beyond theory.
The delegation also toured various offices within the Authority, offering them a closer look at day-to-day operations and the coordinated institutional effort required to ensure effective water governance and service delivery.
In a moment of reflection and encouragement, the learners interacted with the Board Chairperson, Dr. John E.L. Kunda, who urged them to remain disciplined, focused, and committed to their education, while also cautioning against substance abuse and other behaviours that could derail their future aspirations.
They were later addressed by the Director General, Ms. Misozi Ngulube, who welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for their visit.
She encouraged the learners to excel in their academic work and challenged them to serve as ambassadors of water resources management and environmental stewardship within their schools and communities, promoting the sustainable protection of Zambiaโ€™s water resources for present and future generations.
Adding a technical and career development perspective, Acting Senior Manager for Operations, Eng. Anthony Chabala, encouraged the pupils to consider careers in engineering, natural resources management, and environmental sciences, highlighting the growing demand for skilled professionals in these critical sectors.
The visit was further enriched by a career guidance session from the Director Human Capital and Administration, Ms. Annie Sakala, who provided practical insights on career selection, academic focus, and preparation for future opportunities in various professional fields.
The educational research tour reflects WARMAโ€™s ongoing commitment to nurturing young minds by bridging classroom learning with real-world experience.
By opening its doors to learners, the Authority continues to inspire the next generation of water managers, engineers, scientists, and environmental stewards who will play a vital role in safeguarding Zambiaโ€™s water resources.
