𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐌𝐀 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬

The Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA) is concluding a five-day stakeholder workshop on the drafting and consolidation of the Water Resource Protection Areas Statutory Instrument at Twangale Park in Lusaka.

Officially opened by Director General Ms. Misozi Ngulube, the workshop has brought together officials from the Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation, the Ministry of Justice, and WARMA technical experts to review and refine the draft regulatory framework for the declaration and management of Water Resource Protection Areas.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Ms. Ngulube noted that Government has observed increasing pressure on strategic water resources across the country arising from settlement expansion, incompatible land uses and other activities that threaten both surface and groundwater systems.

She emphasized that the Statutory Instrument will provide the legal framework for the declaration and protection of strategic water resources and critical recharge areas, strengthening efforts to safeguard Zambia’s water security and support sustainable socio-economic development.

The workshop forms part of an ongoing national process by WARMA to identify, map and protect strategic water resources through legally recognized Water Resource Protection Areas. Once finalized and gazetted, the regulations will provide a framework for the continued declaration and protection of strategic water resources across the country.
